Queensland’s new publicly-owned clean energy generator, CleanCo, has appointed its inaugural permanent Chief Executive Officer.
CleanCo Chair Jacqui Walters welcomed the appointment of Dr Maia Schweizer who will take up the role on 30 September 2019.
“Maia brings to the role of CEO extensive global experience in the energy and infrastructure industries, including as a management consultant in McKinsey & Company’s London, Houston, Shanghai and Sydney offices. Most recently Maia held general management roles in the gas and retail businesses of Origin Energy,” Ms Walters said.
“As a geoscientist, Dr Schweizer was awarded a PhD from Oxford University.
“The Board selected Maia for her proven ability to bring teams together and lead the development and delivery of business strategies in fast moving and changeable environments, all of which are skills required to deliver on CleanCo’s challenging mandate.
“Her great energy and ability to forge positive partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders makes Maia an excellent choice for leading the development of our emerging culture at CleanCo,” she said.
Maia’s appointment comes as CleanCo prepares to begin trading in the Australian National Energy Market on 31 October and takes over the remaining stages of the Queensland Government’s Renewables 400 procurement program.
On behalf of the CleanCo Board, Ms Walters thanked Interim CEO Miles George for the last seven months of dedicated leadership.
“Establishing a new energy generator presents many complex challenges. Miles’ dedication and leadership has been exceptional during these critical early months in the establishment and transition of CleanCo,” Ms Walters said.
“The CleanCo Board will continue to work with Miles and the current executive team to ensure an orderly and comprehensive transition to Maia.”
