Caitlyn dives into energy sector career

Caitlyn’s role as a Project Manager – Asset Operations (Major Works) with CleanCo combines her love of dams with a drive to make tangible improvements to our assets.

Joining CleanCo in 2024, Caitlyn oversees a range of major civil projects that contribute to improving our infrastructure.

Making projects happen

“It’s great to work in a job where I see a project become a reality,” Caitlyn said. “It’s rewarding to be able to point to something and think ‘I helped to make that happen’.”

In Caitlyn’s case, that could be bank stabilisation work around our Wivenhoe Power Station site, improving water quality and biodiversity at our Swanbank Cooling Water Dam or installing infrastructure to support emergency communication around CleanCo’s dams.

Caitlyn’s career in civil engineering began with work experience she undertook in senior high school. She spent 2 weeks with a major construction company and got a close-up view of Brisbane’s Boggo Road Busway project being built.

After completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Caitlyn ‘s first job was with a civil contractor on the expansion of the Hay Point Coal Terminal in north Queensland. Returning to Brisbane, she worked on the Gold Coast Rapid Transit project before completing further studies in Project Management.

Discovering the world of dams

Caitlyn worked in local government and as a consultant to Federal Government before joining SEQ Water, where she discovered the world of dams.

“Dams fulfil such a valuable function for communities across Queensland,” she said. “At SEQ Water I worked on a wide variety of projects – from dam upgrades to spillway improvements, earthworks and foundation works.

“I then moved into a project management role and was involved in projects relating to rivers and weirs.”

Caitlyn took a break from work to have children and joined CleanCo upon her return to work.

“It’s great to be part of an organisation playing a vital role in the energy transition. Working on dam projects for CleanCo is the icing on the cake.”

A typical day could see Caitlyn working with contractors or site teams, developing documentation and liaising with dam regulators. She appreciates the flexible work arrangements CleanCo offers, allowing her to manage work and family life.

“I am grateful to have a role that makes a tangible contribution to CleanCo, while balancing the demands of family life.”
