Due to recent heavy rainfall in Far North Queensland, Koombooloomba Dam is now spilling.
Vessels on the dam are restricted to 4hp or less.
Nina, the Operations Improvement Lead at CleanCo, leverages her diverse background and passion for renewable energy to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence, all while fostering collaboration across teams to ensure the company’s strategic goals are met.
Diversity in her role
When she’s not exploring nature, studying, or sailing on weekends, you can find Nina dedicating her days to ensuring CleanCo is on the right track for continued renewable energy success.
Though she’s only been at CleanCo for a short time, her impact has been felt from operational sites to the corporate office through her critical role as Operations Improvement Lead.
Each day may look different, but her work revolves around collaborating with our sites to support operations, track performance, and drive continuous improvement—ensuring project objectives align with strategic goals. “No day is the same,” she shares. “I engage with people across different functions and help pull together diverse teams to solve problems, to support our operations.”
The business improvement tool belt
Nina has a suite of tools for business improvement at her disposal, backed by her education in business and project management.
Originally from Hamburg, Germany, Nina moved to Brisbane after a lifelong fascination with Australia. Although she returned to Germany briefly for her studies, she knew Australia was where she belonged and made the permanent move in 2014.
With previous experience at BHP in recruitment, site improvement, and Engineering Systems and Improvement Lead, as well as Boeing as a business improvement practitioner, Nina has worn many hats.
She believes her diverse background has enriched her work at CleanCo.
“I’ve taken an atypical path into the energy industry, but I’m proud of my journey. I firmly believe that a variety of skills is essential for advancing the energy transition,” she says.
Deep diving into the energy transition
Nina’s journey into the energy sector began with an interest in renewable energy, inspiring her to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Energy at UQ.
“I see the urgent environmental issues we need to solve, not only for today but for future generations. It’s something that’s close to my heart because I love nature!” she explains.
“I learned so much in my Graduate Certificate; it brought together people from various backgrounds and skill sets, which enriched my experience,” she reflects.
“It gave me valuable insights into what we must do to implement change, and I believe I can contribute to those goals through my work at CleanCo.”
CleanCo is where it’s at
Nina spends time understanding core operational processes and seeks to maximise efficiencies and is focused on how to develop an active operating model that allows for continuous improvement.
She is also focused on building collaborative relationships across the teams to ensure initiatives are successful and says the CleanCo team make the work even more enjoyable.
“The people at CleanCo are incredible; they’re passionate about what they do,” she notes.
She has a special appreciation for CleanCo’s assets, particularly Wivenhoe Power Station, which she finds fascinating in terms of technology. Looking to the future, Nina is excited to see the real-world difference CleanCo continues to make.
