CleanCo customer growth reflects rising demand from Queensland industry
CleanCo has quadrupled its electricity supply to customers over the past five years, reflecting increasing demand from Queensland industry for reliable, affordable and lower-emissions energy solutions.
The state owned retailer’s contracted annual electricity supply increased to more than 2.8 million megawatt hours in 2025. CleanCo says the growth reflects strong and growing confidence from customers with large and complex energy needs and was delivered in a record– breaking year for the company whose generation portfolio delivered more energy to the National Energy Market than it has since the corporation was established.
CleanCo’s acting Executive General Manager for Customer & Energy Markets Alex Driscoll said the growth demonstrates strong customer confidence in the energy generator’s ability to deliver reliable energy solutions that meet the needs of large and complex energy users.
“Since 2021, the volume of electricity we supply to customers has nearly quadrupled,” Mr Driscoll said.
“That growth reflects increasing confidence from industry in CleanCo’s ability to deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable energy, while supporting Queensland’s transition to an energy future that is affordable, reliable and sustainable for all consumers.”
The growth has been supported by CleanCo’s portfolio which supplies electricity across a broad cross-section of Queensland’s economy, including resources, retail, transport and logistics, property management, infrastructure and manufacturing, and government.
Some of the strongest increases have occurred in key sectors, with retail supply more than tripling and electricity supplied to transport and logistics customers more than doubling over the period. Strong growth has also been recorded across infrastructure, manufacturing and property sectors, reflecting rising demand for clean energy solutions.
More than 90 per cent of CleanCo’s contracted electricity volumes are backed by renewables, enabling customers to reduce emissions while maintaining certainty of supply and price over the long term.
“Our customers are operating at scale and need energy solutions that grow with them,” Mr Driscoll said.
“This growth shows CleanCo is delivering real value for Queensland businesses while supporting jobs and economic growth across the state.”
CleanCo’s growing customer base includes Coles and Woolworths, Hilton Foods, Cairns Regional Council and Ipswich City Council, as well as BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, North Queensland Airports, PepsiCo, Aurizon, Scentre Group – alongside many other businesses across Queensland’s economy.

The Swanbank Battery has reached a key commissioning milestone, strengthening the reliability of Queensland’s electricity network. Located at CleanCo’s Swanbank Energy Precinct in Ipswich, the 250MW/500MWh battery is one of the largest in the state and is now able to operate at full capacity while final regulatory and market approvals are completed.
Operating alongside existing generation at Swanbank E, the battery provides fast-response energy support during periods of peak demand, helping improve system stability and support Queensland’s evolving energy mix.

Today we celebrated five years of CleanCo’s commitment to delivering clean energy solutions for Queensland. Since our establishment, we’ve been dedicated to helping customers thrive in a net-zero future, and we’re proud to reflect on the incredible journey that has brought us here. As we celebrate this milestone, we also look ahead to the exciting developments on the horizon.
CleanCo was created with a clear mission—to support Queensland’s transition to a renewable energy future. In 2019, we began trading in the National Electricity Market, acquiring our foundational assets: Wivenhoe, Barron Gorge, Kareeya, Koombooloomba, and Swanbank. These assets laid the groundwork for what has become an impressive clean energy portfolio.
The following year, we celebrated a major achievement with the signing of our first customer and the generation of over 1,200 GWh between 2019 and 2020.
In just five years, CleanCo’s impact has grown exponentially. Since signing our first power purchase agreement (PPA) with the MacIntyre Wind Farm for 400 MW, we’ve made incredible strides. Today, CleanCo has generated more than 10,000 GWh of clean energy, signed five PPAs, and secured nearly 2.3 GW of projects in Central Queensland. We’ve also created the Swanbank Clean Energy Hub and begun construction on our first big battery, further solidifying our role as a key player in the state’s clean energy transformation.
Beyond energy, CleanCo is committed to the communities we serve. We’ve directed over $150,000 to support community initiatives, welcomed 24 new customers, and grown our team to over 300 passionate employees.
CleanCo’s new enterprise strategy sets bold goals to lead Queensland’s renewable energy transition. We aim to service 20% of the state’s energy market with a diverse 5 GW fleet of wind and solar, supported by gas, hydro, and energy storage.
Sustainability and net-zero targets remain central to everything we do. We are committed to delivering positive social and environmental outcomes for our people, customers, and communities. Driving this transformation will be our diverse and connected team, operational excellence, and a focus on digital transformation.
None of our success would be possible without the incredible people who make up CleanCo. Our team’s dedication and passion for renewable energy is the driving force behind our achievements. Together, we are shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future for Queensland.
Happy five years to us!

A cornerstone of CleanCo’s renewable growth program is to support the decarbonisation of industry in Central Queensland, helping the region to thrive in a net zero future.
The Queensland Government’s $500m investment will accelerate the development of a substantial program of local renewable energy projects which will provide much needed capacity to the SuperGrid, and enable CleanCo to provide our customers with unique, sustainable retail product offerings and support them on their decarbonisation journeys.
