SWANBANK COMMUNITY PROJECTS

We are working with the Ipswich community to make Swanbank a place for energy and for people. Our goal is to create a precinct that combines low-emission energy generation and storage with spaces for the community to enjoy. We are committed to making a positive difference in the Ipswich community.

In 2023, we invited local residents to be involved in codesigning a Community Infrastructure Masterplan. Together, we developed a vision for Swanbank that reflects local priorities, benefits and aspirations. Read the Codesign panel’s report.

Our activities at the site are guided by feedback from the Swanbank Community Reference Group (CRG), established in 2024. The CRG acts as a sounding board for project design, innovation, and communication, helping ensure local priorities and values shape our approach. Learn more about our CRG.

Swanbank Community Infrastructure Masterplan

The Masterplan we codesigned with the community in 2023 considers existing assets, community aspirations and CleanCo’s future business needs. After finalising the Masterplan, we invited the community to nominate their priorities for development. Residents supported three key projects:

  • refreshing the Swanbank Lakeside area
  • creating new wetlands at the southern end of Swanbank Lake
  • building a viewing area on the elevated northern edge of the site.

We are now progressing the first project – refreshing the Lakeside area.

Refreshing our Swanbank Lakeside area

For more than 50 years, Swanbank Lake has been a place for families to relax and connect with nature. Now we are upgrading the Lakeside area to make it more welcoming and inclusive. Proposed new features include:

  • spaces for children to explore and learn
  • walking paths and picnic spaces
  • improved parking and bus facilities
  • new plantings to boost local biodiversity.

In 2025, we invited Ipswich residents to vote on two concept designs. Their feedback shaped the final plan, which we will deliver in stages, starting with the carpark, entrance area and children’s zone. Work is expected to begin in mid-2026.
